Circuit of the Cordillera Huayhuash 12D/11N
The remote Huayhuash range offers hikers an incredible opportunity to slip away from civilization for 12 days and be continually surrounded by unforgettable views of pure mountain splendor. The Huayhuash is the most physically demanding trek we offer with over 120 kilometers on foot.

Program:

Day 1: Travel to Huaraz. Hotel night
Day 2: Huaraz: An acclimatization and organization day in Huaraz.
Day 3: Huaraz _ Chiquian _ Llamac at (3300mt)

Drive to the village of Llamac and set up our first camp (3300m). 4 to 5 hours drive.

Day 4: Llamac _ Matacancha at (4150mt)

Following the Llamac River steadily uphill to our first campsite on the grassy meadows of matacancha.

Day 5: Matacancha _Pass Punta Cacanan (4700mt) _Laguna Mitucocha at (4220mt)

Taking in the first pass Cacanan (4700m) and then descending to camp at beautiful Laguna Mitucocha.

Day 6: Laguna Mitucocha _ Pass Carhuac (4650mt) _Laguna Carhuacocha at (4150mt)

We cross the pass Paso de Carhuac (4650m) then descend to our camp at the big Carhuacocha Lake (4150m). From our camp we look directly up the lake to the peaks and ice fields of Siula and the two peaks of Yerupajá.

Day 7: Laguna Carhuacocha _ Pass Carnicero (4600mt) _ Huayhuash at (4100mt)

Here we choose between two routes, the gradual climb to Carnicero pass (4600mt) or the demanding Siula pass (4800mt) which leads past three spectacularly blue glacial lakes.

Day 8: Huayhuash _ Pass Portachuelo (4750mt) _Laguna Viconga at (4480mt)

We descend past Viconga Lake, often the haunt of donkeys and time to relax in the natural hot springs at viconga.

Day 9: Laguna Viconga _ Pass Punta Cuyoc (5000mt) _ Guanacpatay at 4330mt

You’ll hike over the highest pass in the Huayhuash circuit, reaching 5000 meters of altitude. A beautiful side trail is passable on foot while the donkeys follow a different trail,
Day 10: Guanacpatay _ Huatiac at (4300m)


Day 11: Huatiac _ Pass Punta Tapush (4750mt) _Gashgapampa at (4500mt)


Day 12: Gashgapampa _ Pass Yaucha (4800mt) _ Jahuacocha at (4050mt)

Today we cross Yauche Pass,the last on the trek, and descend to Jahuacocha, a beautiful spot to set up our camp for the next two days.

Day 13: An extra day at Laguna Jahuacocha. Cerro Amarrillo Visit at
(5000mt)
We stay at Jahuacocha. Climb up Cerro Amarrillo peak 5000m for views over the whole Huayhuash range and down into Quartelhuain where we were on day 5 (2 to 3 hours). On the top you walk along an exposed ridge for a short way, but it is worth the effort for the breathtaking views.

Day 14: Jahuacocha _Pass Pampa Llamac (4300mt) _ Return at Huaraz

In Llamac the bus will be waiting to take us back to Huaraz for hot showers.
